Engineering tools

Engineering software, built for the field.

Torus writes its own tools for data collection, troubleshooting, site layout and reporting, and builds custom tools for customers around their sites, equipment and workflows.

Custom tools

Tools built for your sites.

When a project needs something off-the-shelf software doesn’t do, we build it: scoped with your team, tested in the field and handed over ready to use.

Trackers and dashboards

Site completion trackers, progress dashboards and work-order views that show where every unit stands, across one site or a fleet.

Digital field forms

Lockout/tagout, inspection and test forms that guide the crew step by step and produce a finished report.

Data and integrations

Equipment data over Modbus and DNP3, cleaned up and delivered to your reports, spreadsheets or monitoring systems.

Data collection

Reading the equipment directly.

During commissioning and fault-finding we read inverters, meters and controllers over their own protocols, and keep the logs with the job record.

Field data collection

Modbus TCP and RTU, and DNP3, polling of inverters, meters and site controllers, with readings time-stamped and compared against alarms and our own measurements.

Controls and communications

  • SEL RTAC configuration and logic
  • Modbus-to-DNP3 translation for utility SCADA
  • Fiber media converters and site network setup
  • Cellular backup communications for remote sites
Example

What a register readout looks like.

Simulated values for illustration, not a live connection. During troubleshooting we compare readings like these with the inverter’s alarms and our own meters.

Modbus TCP · central inverter example · unit ID 1 · poll 2 s Simulated
40012 · DC bus voltage1245.0 V
40014 · DC current2040.0 A
40016 · AC active power2504.2 kW
40018 · IGBT temperature, max54.8 °C
40020 · Grid frequency60.00 Hz
40022 · Power factor0.998

Register addresses vary by manufacturer and firmware. These numbers come from a random model in your browser.

Calculations and records

Checks before the design is final, records while the work happens.

Storage site layout checks

Container spacing, setbacks, working clearances and access, checked against NFPA 855, the NEC (or NTC 2050 in Colombia), the equipment’s listing and test data, and the fire authority’s conditions.

Electrical calculations

Voltage drop, ampacity with derating, and short-circuit checks under the NEC, used to review designs and field changes.

Field records

Torque values, cable pull tensions and insulation results captured on site and carried straight into the job report.

Grid and market data

Grid conditions for the storage projects we support.

For storage projects we work on, we track grid frequency and market prices to inform operating plans and to explain what the equipment was asked to do.
